The Olde One Hundredth and My Thankfullness

What is Worship?

This morning, as I prayed through Psalm 100, my heart was filled with thankfulness!

The Psalmist believes that this Shepherd is so stunning that He affects the ENTIRE EARTH. Everyone, everywhere needs to shout, serve, and come to this Great God. The Psalmist doesn’t want anyone to misunderstand who this Great God is either. He commands us to ‘know that the LORD (Specifically – YHWH, the God who called Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, David, Nathan, Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc), He IS God!’ What a precious grace that is revealed here for us today – We CAN be with God. We, sinful humans, can enter into the presence of the Most Holy God. THIS, alone, ought to fuel our thanksgiving and cause us to praise Him in His courts!

The question for me becomes: ‘How can we enter into His courts?’ The psalmist gives us that answer too – Because of YHWH’s goodness, not our own! This is the good news! We have no goodness of our own but… Jesus bore our sins on His body on the tree so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness, by HIS wounds we have been healed (1 Peter 2:24). Have you received His goodness? If so… bless His name with me! If you haven’t… He IS faithful to keep His promises and He will cleanse you from all unrighteousness and save your soul! – won’t you call on Him right now?

Throughout the history of Christ’s Church, believers have gathered together for the sole purpose of expressing this to each other and to the watching world. They have proclaimed the marvelous extent of God’s providential watch-care over them. They, in their time, responded with gratitude when they heard the words of this Psalm and right now, you and I can join them as we worship this Eternal, Covenant Keeping, Creative, Shepherd! It is such a blessing to find ourselves sailing down the same stream of Christian worship as those who have gone on before us into the Glory of His Gates to praise!
